This necklace of colored beads is in a pattern that distinguishes the personality of the wearer. Different bead patterns represent different female personalities. It is a token presented to me by women leaders who met with me in a village community in Western Africa. I was always appreciative of their hospitality and the associated meaning of the pattern in this necklace. This piece also brings back the strong and wonderful memory of being awakened in the very early morning hours to rise with the sounds of drums beating in the darkness. Such a plain adornment but a wonderful set of associated memories are attached to the beads.
