One of the best ways to pass cherished memories to friends and family is the gift of a recipe. Recipes are the source of fond memories of good times in the kitchen and good food enjoyed. One look at a recipe can bring a memory of scents and loved ones and a special time of year.  All this love from a picture and a few scattered but measured words on paper passing along today's valued learning to another day.  I share in the photos some memories of breakfast dishes, past and perhaps future too.

These modernized tea cups are inscribed with calligraphy for poetic elements such as the moon.  The cups are gifts from a close family member celebrating the fine ritual of the tea ceremony.  I have been privileged to be served in an authentic Japanese tea ceremony and to visit fine Chinese tea rooms as well.  The memory of gently holding the tea cup and absorbing the warmth, fragrance and gentle steam of the tea is unforgettable.  The style of the cups in this post form a nice East-West artifact and a set of mementos for the ritual of tea time.

The pictures show a decorative kite that was brought back as a gift to a young family member by a close relative returning from travel in Asia.  Kites are one of life's most joyful and delightful artifacts.  The mere sight of a colorful kite might bring to mind breezy days of spring when there is time to pursue the task of getting a flying contraption up and wind driven.  Perhaps the best kites will reach their true destiny released to the winds when the kite strings break, and the kite is freed to the sky.  The decorative example in this post is a bit too beautiful and fragile for such an escapade. This purple butterfly serves instead as witness to both the pleasures and artistry found in these fanciful tributes to flight.
