A Vintage Photograph of Baby

A Vintage Photograph of Baby

This post is a statement of a father's love for his young daughter. The value in the first photographs of a baby is without measure. This photo comes from my family and celebrates the blessing of children and a loving home.

Vintage Photographs - Spring Blossoms - Tulips

Vintage Photographs - Spring Blossoms - Tulips

One special memory is held of a neighborhood where spring gardeners created beautiful blooms to greet visitors and passerbys. The vintage photograph below captured the community spirit and warm welcome of bright flowers extended by this neighborhood years ago to its members and guests.

Grandmother's Lamp - Mementos of Light

Grandmother's Lamp - Mementos of Light

This post features the delicate pattern from the base of a beige pink lamp that was owned by a special family member.  The lamp occupies a dedicated corner of my home and when turned on reminds of the warm glow that filled the evening hours when visiting this loved one.  Lamps and the light given by one person can fill the heart and save the soul from the cold of the winter season.  I hope to enjoy the  many lights of the upcoming season with joy and merriment.

Memory Book Gift (Handmade) - Mementos of Friendship - Roses

This beautifully crafted booklet featured photos of times remembered and was gifted to me by a close personal friend.  It brings joy to the heart even now as a reflection of an enduring bond that has deepened and grown over the years with sharing of thoughts and life experiences.  I post it in celebration of friendship.  "Make new friends but keep the old...."

The Wedding Photograph - Vintage Mementos of a Family History

The Wedding Photograph - Vintage Mementos of a Family History

This silver-framed photograph celebrates a wedding from many years ago.  To me a photograph reaches memento or artifact status when it is time to pass it on to the next generation.  In this spirit, I pass along this photograph of a very beautiful wedding to the younger members of my family.

The rag quilt blanket was a beautiful gift to celebrate the coming of a new baby.  I have had a fondness for beautiful and handcrafted textiles as far back as I can remember - perhaps the source of that love extends all the way back to the baby quilt featured in today's post.  These soft and colorful coverings are real decorative treasures created from textile scraps to commemorate with love the momentous event of a new child's birth.

Christening Favors - Celebrating the Blessing

Christening Favors - Celebrating the Blessing

Some say the Greek wedding is the important event; but competing for the title of over the top celebrations is the christening for a new baby.  I was privileged to be a guest at both of these ceremonies.  The pomp and circumstance and beauty of these events is reflected even in the quality of mementos given to departing guests.  These items often are included in the table setting before they are given to guests. Here in this post is a sampling reflecting the importance of these two life events - birth and marriage.

Wedding Favors - Bubbles in a Church

Wedding Favors - Bubbles in a Church

These bubbles in a small bottle shaped like a church are a favorite memento received at the end of a very special couple's wedding.  It seems that the lightness and beauty of bubbles in a summer breeze are a proper reflection of a couple's precious love.  Like doves and rice and flower petals, bubbles in a tiny bottle form a recognition of the hopes and dreams for the newly wedded partners.  The bubbles seem to say dream on and hold on to the good times. I wish much happiness both to the newlyweds and to the long time married with this post. May your love be forever.

Love Mementos - Plaques of Affirmation and a Decorative Plate

Love Mementos - Plaques of Affirmation and a Decorative Plate
Love

Decorative Plate
Serenity Prayer

The decorative plate in the photos shows a happy home in bright primary colors. It was given to me in my early years as a homemaker when I was beginning to build the physical and spiritual foundation to raise a family.  It has over the years served as a quiet beacon of the goals of the work put forth to provide stability and encouragement to family members. The other two items are plaques which affirm the spirit with encouraging words and ask for patience while providing understanding and wisdom.  These were also gifts to me and are symbols of fond bonds with close friends and family.  May these mementos bring thoughts of your blessings too in your own home and hearth.

Wooden tulips (fools in love and money)

Wooden tulips (fools in love and money)

Pink and Blue Wooden Tulips in Stoneware Vase

 Pink and Blue Tulip
My wooden tulips are special mementos purchased by me as symbols of that flower given at times by a fool in love.  In the photo they sit in a very old pottery piece glazed also in my favorite colors of  pink and blue. These blossoms seem symbolic of that kind of youthful love or infatuation that has no real foundation but brightly blooms in the spring each year.  The wooden flowers were bought as a gentle reminder of the short life span of this kind of love.  Funny as well that one of the most foolish investment boom and bust stories in history was centered around tulip bulbs. Yes, innocence takes the same path whether with money or love -  fast up and down.
